Novosibirsk region is located at the intersection of key railway lines in Russia.

The foundation and development of the city of Novosibirsk is closely connected with the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. It was decided to place the railway bridge over the Ob River south of the previously planned location, so the Ob station appeared, which later became the city of Novo-Nikolaevsky, now Novosibirsk.

The Trans-Siberian Railway (the old name is the Great Siberian Way) is the longest railway in the world (9.288 thousand km). The Trans-Siberian Railway runs through the whole country and connects the western, Ural, Siberian and Far Eastern regions of Russia, as well as the western, northern and southern ports of the country with ports of the Pacific Ocean and exits to Asia.

Novosibirsk is the center of the West Siberian railway network. In 2023 loading on the West Siberian Railway amounted to 274,594 thousand tons of cargo. The tariff cargo turnover amounted to 356,747 million ton-km.

The main railway stations of the Novosibirsk region:

  • Novosibirsk-Glavny junction railway station;
  • Inskaya marshalling yard railway station;
  • Kleshchikha freight railway station.

There are about 250 stations in total.

Tolmachevo International Airport is located 17 km from Novosibirsk.

Tolmachevo Airport is one of the most intensively developing airports in Russia and the largest transit hub in Siberia on the most important routes between Europe and Asia.

Due to the extensive transport network, Tolmachevo airport transports many passengers from Novosibirsk Region, as well as from neighboring regions such as Tomsk, Kemerovo regions, Altai Territory and the Altai Republic.

By the end of 2023, the airport served 9,093 million passengers (+19.9% from 2022), which is an absolute record in the history of the airline. The airport ranks 4th in the Russian Federation in terms of total passenger traffic after the airports of the Moscow Aviation Hub, St. Petersburg, and Sochi.

Tolmachevo Airport is one of the five largest in Russia in terms of cargo transportation after the Moscow and St. Petersburg hubs. According to the results for 2023, the total cargo traffic amounted to 28,450 tons.

Novosibirsk Region is a region that is located at the intersection of key transport routes.

Several federal highways run through the region:

  • R-254 Irtysh highway (Chelyabinsk – Kurgan – Omsk – Novosibirsk)
  • R-255 Siberia highway (Novosibirsk – Kemerovo – Krasnoyarsk – Irkutsk)
  • R-256 Chuysky tract highway (Novosibirsk – Biysk – Gorno-Altaysk – Mongolia border)

The total length of highways passing through the territory Novosibirsk region, is 12,732,897 km, of which 10,332. 061 km are paved roads.

The main large-scale road projects implemented in recent years are the construction of the Bugrinsky Bridge (17 billion rubles), the creation of the Northern Bypass of Novosibirsk (15.6 billion rubles), the construction of the tunnel and the Baryshevo-Koltsovo road (7,699 million rubles) and the construction of the fourth automobile bridge across the Ob (the bridge is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of 2024).
